On November 30, 2013, I participated in my first gay counter-protest against the Family Guardian Coalition. At the time, I agreed to be interviewed for television, in order to help be a voice for people who were not able to come out.That same night, my aunt phoned me to say, "Hey kid, I think you're really brave and great for what you did, keep fighting!" It was then that I realized that I had actually come out. Unfortunately, the subsequent airing of the interview on the news caused problems with my family. My mother ended up shunning me for an entire month. But fortunately, our relationship is much better now. This year, she actually signed the gay marriage petition. As a gay man, it makes me so proud!
